Friday, the Statistics Estonia announced that the jobless rate stood at 13.5% in the second quarter, up from 11.4% in the first quarter. A year earlier, the jobless rate was 4%.
The number of unemployed persons increased to 92,000 in the second quarter, of which two thirds were men. At the same time, the unemployment rate for men was 16.9%, while women unemployment was 10%.
The number of employed persons decreased 9.7% year-on-year to 593,000 in the second quarter. Compared to the previous quarter, employed persons dropped by 3.2%.
