Friday, the Statistics Sweden announced that the trade surplus stood at SEK 6.1 billion in August, narrowing from SEK 9.1 billion surplus in July. Economists expected a trade surplus of SEK 1 billion. A year ago, the trade surplus was SEK 0.9 billion.
Exports decreased 14% year-on-year to SEK 73.8 billion in August, while imports dropped 20% to SEK 67.7 billion.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the net trade surplus amounted to SEK 10.9 billion in August, widening from SEK 10.5 billion in July.
For the January to August period, exports and imports decreased by 19% and 21%, respectively compared to the same period of the previous year. During the period, the trade surplus amounted to SEK 76 billion, up from SEK 73.3 billion a year ago.
