Household consumer confidence in New Zealand increased in the third quarter, according to survey results published Thursday by Westpac Bank and McDermott Miller Ltd.
The survey's consumer confidence index rose to a four-year high of 120.3 compared to the 106.0 in the second quarter. Readings above 100.0 indicate the number of optimists is greater than the number of pessimists.
A net 17 percent of consumers said they expect the economy to improve over the coming year, compared to a net 28 percent who said they expected conditions to worsen reported in the previous survey.
Those saying they are financially worse off than they were a year ago totaled 22 percent.
