Tuesday, the Statistics Finland announced that the jobless rate stood at 7.6% in August, up from 5.6% recorded a year ago. Economists' expected the jobless rate to be 8.3%.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.8% in August, while the youth unemployment rate was 22.4%.
The number of unemployed totaled 203,000 persons in August, larger than the 151,000 persons last year. In contrast, the number of employed persons decreased to 2.47 million from 2.57 million a year ago.
The total labor force amounted to 2.67 million in August, smaller than the 2.72 million last year.
Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate stood at 66.4% in August, down from 67.8% a year ago.
