Tuesday, the Statistics South Africa said in a report that the consumer price index or CPI increased 6.4% year-on-year in August, slower than the 6.7% growth in the previous month. The consumer price inflation came in line with economists' expectations.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices increased 1.1% on an annual basis in August, while clothing and footwear prices rose 0.2%. Transport charges were down 0.5%.
On a monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.3% in August, in line with economists' expectations. In July, the CPI was up 1.1%.
