Consumer Sentiment Index Revised Up To 73.5 In September

Friday morning, Reuters and the University of Michigan released their revised report on consumer sentiment in the month of September, showing that their consumer sentiment index for the month came in well above previous estimates.

The report showed that the consumer sentiment index was revised up to a reading of 73.5 from the preliminary reading of 70.2. With the upward revision, the index came in well above the August reading of 65.7.

Economists had been expecting a much more modest upward revision to the index to a reading of about 70.5.

The current conditions index was revised up to a reading of 73.4, while the expectations index was revised up to a reading of 73.5.

The report also showed that one-year inflation expectations fell to 2.2 percent from 2.6 percent in the preliminary survey and 2.8 percent in August. With the decrease, inflation expectations fell to their lowest level since March.
