Italian industrial orders rose 3.2% month-on-month in July after rising 2.6% in June, statistical office Istat said Friday. Economists had expected a slight increase of 0.4% in July. That was the third monthly increase.
Compared to the previous year, orders were down 23.2%, with domestic orders declining 25.6% and external orders falling 18.6%. Total orders have been falling since October 2008.
Industrial sales picked up by 0.7% in July compared to June, the first increase since June last year. Annually, turnover dropped 21.7%, the tenth consecutive fall.
