Sweden's jobless rate stood at 9.1% in the second quarter, up 2.3 percentage points from the same period last year. During the quarter, 454,000 persons aged between 15 and 74 years were unemployed.
At the same time, the number of employed persons decreased by 99,000 to 4.5 million. This is the second consecutive quarter employment fell from the previous year.
The number of permanently employed persons declined by 38,000 in the second quarter, marking the first year-on-year decline in the number time since the fourth quarter of 2004.
Moreover, the number of temporarily employed slipped by 54,000 persons in the second quarter. The downturn in the number of temporarily employed persons has continued since the start of 2008, the statistical office said.
