The index measuring tertiary industrial activity in Japan inched higher by a seasonally adjusted 0.1 percent in June compared to the previous month, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Friday, posting a score of 96.1.
That was solidly higher than analyst expectations that had called for a 0.3 percent decline after the revised 0.3 percent monthly fall in May. The original reading showed a 0.1 percent fall on month.
Top gaining sectors included technical services, financials, health care, postal activities and miscellaneous services.
For the second quarter, the tertiary index fell 0.7 percent compared to the previous three months.
