Monday, the Statistics Estonia said in a final report that the trade deficit stood at EEK 1.6 billion in August, revised from the EEK 1.5 billion deficit reported initially. A year ago, the trade deficit was EEK 2.3 billion.
Exports dropped 31% year-on-year to EEK 7.7 billion in August, compared to the 24% fall in the previous month. Exports in August were revised from 30% fall estimated in the preliminary report.
Similarly, imports decreased 31% on an annual basis to EEK 9.3 billion in August, unrevised from the earlier report. In July, imports were down 36%.
On a monthly basis, exports and imports of goods from Estonia decreased by 7% and 3% respectively in August. Exports and imports were revised from 5% and 3% decline reported earlier.
The decline in exports was mainly due to fall in exports of machinery and equipment and petroleum products, the statistical office said.
