World trade volume rose 2.5% month-on-month in June, following a revised 1.4% fall in the preceding month, a report by the Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis said. The growth is the strongest since July last year, but is still 19% below the peak seen in April 2008.
In the second quarter, world trade fell 0.7% on a sequential basis, reflecting a much smaller drop than in the preceding two quarters.
Meanwhile, world industrial production was up 2% on a monthly basis in June, after a 1.4% rise in the preceding month, and marked the steepest rise on record. However, production is still 8.5% below the peak seen in March last year.
