Thursday, the Statistics Denmark announced that the retail sales dropped 1.2% month-on-month in August, in contrast to the 0.7% increase in the previous month, revised from 1% growth reported initially. Economists were looking for an increase of 0.1%.
In August, retail sales for food and groceries increased to 1.2% from 1.1% fall in July, while sales for clothing,etc fell 2.6%. Other consumer goods sales slipped 3.2%.
On an annual basis, retail sales decreased 46% in August, compared to the 6.6% fall a year ago.
