Tuesday, the Statistics Ireland announced that the jobless rate increased to 11.6% in the second quarter from 10.1% in the first quarter. There were 264,600 unemployed persons in the second quarter.
The number of persons in employment totaled 1.93 million, representing an annual decline of 8.2% or 174,300 persons.The overall employment rate among persons aged 15-64 fell by 5.6 percentage points from last year to 62.5% in the second quarter.
The total number of persons in the labor force in the second quarter was 2.2 million, representing a decrease of 36,500 or 1.6% from last year. The overall participation rate declined to 62.5% in the second quarter from 63.7% in the same period the previous year.
