Manufacturing activity in Australia picked up in August.
The Australian Industry Group and PriceWaterhouseCoopers reported Tuesday that its Performance of Manufacturing index jumped 7.2 points in August to a reading of 51.7.
Readings above 50.0 indicate an expansion of activity in the sector.
The august reading was the first to rise above the 50.0 mark in 15 months.
The production and new orders sub-categories both moved above the 50.0 mark.
AIG spokeswoman Heather Ridout said in a statement that "manufacturing activity has been improving month by month, with the pick-up being driven by a combination of improved demand and a rebuilding of inventories."
