To soften the impact of shortage and delay in rainfall, the Union Government said that it would stop the exports of wheat and non-Basmati rice, besides footing half of the subsidy on diesel being offered to the farmer by states, reports PTI.
Food and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar announced this in the upper house following a briefing to his cabinet colleagues and the prime minister on the monsoon situation and kharif- sowing. He ruled out the possibility of any shortage of food grains for the next 13 months. However, he was concerned over the price rise of Arhar Dal, which he felt would be "a temporary phenomenon".
