Poland's Manufacturing PMI Stable In December

Poland's manufacturing sector remained unchanged in December, the Markit Economics said on Monday.

The HSBC Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index stood at a seasonally adjusted 52.4 in December, unchanged from the previous month. A reading above 50 indicates expansion, while one below 50 suggests contraction. This was the highest PMI reading since March 2008.

Manufacturing output grew for the fifth consecutive month in December, but the rate of growth eased slightly. New order growth was broadly unchanged from the previous month, while input price inflation in the manufacturing sector climbed to a seventeen-month high in December.

Kubilay Ozturk, economist at HSBC, said, "While the surge in output and input prices points to inflationary pressures in line with growing economic activity, we still expect the new MPC to remain on hold in the first half of next year. Overall, the release suggests Poland's economic outperformance will continue into 2010."
