German Dec. Producer Prices Decline At Slower Pace

Wednesday, Germany's Federal Statistical Office announced that the producer price index or PPI fell 5.2% year-on-year in December , slower than the 5.9% decline in the previous month. Economists expected a decrease of 5.1%.

On a monthly basis, the PPI dropped 0.1% in December, in contrast to a 0.1% increase in November. Economists were looking for an increase of 0.2%.

In the year of 2009, producer prices dropped 4.2% from the previous year. This was the biggest decline regarding the annual average since the statistics started in 1949, the Destatis said.
