The Finance Ministry says that too much stimulus packages may injure the reviving economy hinting that they may be withdrawn, reports media.
Finance Secretary Ashok Chawla Wednesday said stimulus was not required and was not good when the economy started recovering. His statement was significant in the context of the industry bodies seeking continuation of stimulus packages until first half of the next fiscal.
It is understood that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had also stressed this point at the pre-budget interactions with industry. FICCI Secretary-General Amit Mitra said the interactions were mainly on the continuation of fiscal stimulus until it reached a point. It is to be noted that the government came out with various stimulus measures to encourage economy that was impacted by the global financial crisis. Subsequently, the economy responded to the stimulus with reporting 6.1% growth in first quarter and 7.9% in the second quarter. However, industry wants stimulus to continue until economy is on firm recovery.
