Taiwan's consumer price index or CPI dropped 0.21% year-on-year in December, after falling 1.61% in November, revised from 1.59% drop estimated initially, the Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics said on Tuesday. This was the eleventh consecutive month of decline in CPI. Economists expected an increase of 0.15%.
On a monthly basis, the CPI decreased 0.45% in December.
For the whole year of 2009, the CPI declined by 0.87% compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, the wholesale price index or WPI increased 5.55% on an annual basis in December, faster than the revised 1.06% growth in the previous month. Economists' were looking for an increase of 5.27%. Month-on-month, the WPI was up 0.19%. The WPI decreased 8.74% in the whole year of 2009.
