The Philippines' exports surged 23.6% year-on-year to $3.30 billion in December after an increase of 5.7% in November, the statistical office said Wednesday. A year ago, exports plunged 40.3% in December.
However, shipments fell 11% on a monthly basis following slight increase of 1.1% in November and a decline of 23.9% in the year ago period.
Exports of manufactured goods reached $2.808 billion in December, an increase of 26.4% from a year earlier. Compared to November, it fell 13.6%.
The country exported 9.4% more goods to the United States of America including Alaska and Hawaii. Exports to Japan including Okinawa, the second top market of the country, rose 10.9%.
Netherlands came in third with shipments amounting to $295.24 million, an increase of 77.2% from the previous year. Singapore ranked fourth in December with $283.19 million worth exports, an increase of 141.6% over the previous year.
Moreover, the statistical agency said aggregate merchandise exports from January to December dropped by 21.9% to $38.327 billion.
