Wednesday, Italy's statistical office Istat announced that the industrial production index dropped a calender adjusted 5.6% year-on-year in December, slower than the 7.9% fall in the previous month. Economists were looking for a decline of 4.9%.
On an unadjusted basis, industrial output decreased 2.3% annually in December, after falling 5.2% in November.
Month-on-month, industrial output declined a seasonally adjusted 0.7% in December, compared to the 0.1% growth expected by economists.
For the January to December period, industrial production was down 17.5% compared to the same period of the previous year. During the period, industrial output fell an unadjusted 17.4%.
