Greek Dec. Current Account Deficit Widens

Friday, the Bank of Greece announced that the current account deficit stood at EUR 3.16 billion in December, widening from EUR 3.13 billion deficit recorded a year ago.

The capital transfers balance showed a surplus of EUR 54 million in December, smaller than the EUR 143.1 million surplus last year. At the same time, financial account surplus amounted to EUR 2.45 billion, down from EUR 2.75 billion a year earlier.

In the whole year of 2009, the current account deficit amounted to EUR 26.7 billion, narrowing from EUR 34.8 billion deficit in 2008.
