The value of housing construction done in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2009 was down 2.9 percent from the preceding quarter and down 6.2 percent from one year earlier in seasonally adjusted terms, according to a report published Wednesday by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Residential construction value totaled A$10.432 billion for the quarter.
Total building work jumped 6.1 percent to A$19.34 billion.
The bureau said that in trend terms, which further smooth the seasonally adjusted data, residential construction was up 0.1 percent compared to the third quarter and down 4.1 percent from a year earlier.
The overall value of building work, including non-residential and engineering work, was up 2.6 percent on quarter and 3.9 percent on year in seasonally adjusted terms.
