Overall salary and wage rates in New Zealand increased by 0.4 percent in the three months to December, according to data released Tuesday by Statistics NZ.
Wages and salaries in the private sector, both including and excluding overtime, increased by 0.3 percent while average hourly earnings decreased 0.4 percent compared to the third quarter of 2009.
Statistics NZ's Labor Cost Index for the full 2009 year increased 1.8 percent, the lowest since the 1.8 percent growth seen for the year to the June 2001 quarter.
Annual wage growth has now declined for 15 straight months from its peak of 4.0 percent growth for the year to the September 2008 quarter, the agency said.
