Wednesday, the Department of Statistics Malaysia announced that the manufacturing sales value increased 16.2% year-on-year in December, compared to the 8.1%fall in November. This was the first increase since November 2008.
On a monthly basis, manufacturing sales grew 5.1% in December.
For the January to December period, manufacturing sales decreased 18.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Meanwhile, the number of employees engaged in the manufacturing sector was 944,024 in December, an increase of 2,976 persons or 0.3% compared with the preceding month. At the same time, wages and salaries increased 6% or MYR 120.5 million to MYR 2.14 billion.
