The monetary base in Japan was up 4.9 percent on year in January, the Bank of Japan said on Tuesday, standing at 98.067 trillion yen after the 5.2 percent annual increase in December.
Banknotes in circulation were down 0.2 percent on year, while coins in circulation shed an annual 0.7 percent. The current account balance jumped 43.4 percent on year, including a 38.2 percent annual increase in reserve balances.
The seasonally adjusted monetary base jumped 13.4 percent to 96.43 trillion yen after the revised 10.8 percent increase in December.
