Japan Labor Cash Earnings Plunge In December

Total cash earnings of employees in Japanese establishments with five or more employees dropped 6.1% year-on-year to JPY 549,259 in December, accelerating from the 2.4% decline in the previous month, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare reported on Tuesday.

Contractual cash earnings fell 0.7% annually in December. Scheduled and non-scheduled cash earnings were down 0.9% and 0.1%, respectively, while special cash earnings slumped 10.6%.

In establishments with thirty or more employees, labor cash earnings were down 6.6% in December after the 2.8% decline in the preceding month.
