Tuesday, Germany's Federal Statistical Office announced that the retail sales in real terms increased a seasonally and calender adjusted 0.8% month-on-month in December, compared to 1.7% decline in November, revised from 1.1% fall estimated initially. Economists expected an increase of 0.9%.
Year-on-year, retail sales decreased 2.5% in December, same as in the previous month, revised from 2.8% drop estimated initially. Retail sales came in line with economists expectations.
In the year of 2009, retail sales slipped 1.8% from the previous year.
In nominal terms, retail sales grew a seasonally and calender adjusted 0.8% month-on-month in December, after falling 1.9% in November. On an annual basis, retail sales dropped 1.8% in December, slower than the 2.8% decline in the preceding month. In 2009, retail sales slipped 2.4% over a year ago.
