France's current account deficit widened to EUR 3.6 billion in December from a revised EUR 3.4 billion deficit in November, data from the Bank of France showed Wednesday.
Details of data showed that goods trade deficit expanded to EUR 4.9 billion in December from EUR 4.2 billion in November, while the surplus in services trade rose to EUR 1.4 billion from EUR 1.1 billion. The income surplus rose to EUR 1.8 billion from EUR 1.6 billion and the deficit on current transfers remained at EUR 1.9 billion.
The capital account balance turned to a deficit of EUR 0.1 billion from November's surplus of EUR 0.1 billion.
In 2009, France saw a current account deficit of EUR 40.6 billion, down from EUR 44 billion in 2008. The goods trade deficit narrowed to EUR 47.5 billion from EUR 59.1 billion in the previous year. The surplus in services trade narrowed to EUR 11.6 billion from EUR 14.5 billion.
