Eurozone retail sales remained unchanged on a monthly basis in December, compared to the 0.5% decline in the previous month, a report by Eurostat showed on Wednesday. Retail sales figure for November was revised from 1.2% fall estimated initially. Economists expected a 0.4% increase for December.
Year-on-year, retail sales dropped 1.6% in December, after falling 2% in November, revised from 4% decline reported initially. Economists were looking for a decline of 2.4%.
For the year of 2009, the average volume of retail sales fell 2.3% from the previous year.
In EU27, retail sales dropped 1% on an annual basis and was down 0.1% compared to the preceding month.
