Tuesday, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet said keeping inflation expectations anchored remains of paramount importance, under exceptional circumstances even more than in normal times. "Our framework has been successful in this regard thus far," he said in a symposium for the 50th anniversary of the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Trichet left Sydney early to attend a European Council meeting, reports said. He was originally expected to leave on Wednesday.
