The South Korean economy expanded 2.9 percent in the third quarter of 2009, the Bank of Korea said on Monday morning, growing for the third consecutive quarter.
The gross domestic product came in well ahead of forecasts of between 1.9 and 2.2 percent following the 2.6 percent quarterly expansion in the previous three months.
On an annual basis, GDP was up 0.6 percent in the third quarter compared to forecasts for a 0.3 percent decline after the 2.2 percent annual contraction in the second quarter.
