Chinese exports fell 23.4% on an annual basis in August to US$103.7 billion, the Customs Bureau said in a report on Friday. Imports were down 17% annually to US$87.9 billion. Economists were looking for an annual decline of 19% in exports and 10.5% in imports.
The trade surplus stood at US$15.7 billion in August, while economists were expecting a surplus of US$13.6 billion.
