Job vacancies for skilled workers in Australia increased in August by 1.0 percent over July.
The increase, reported by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations on Wednesday, was the first monthly increase since November 2007.
The index reading for August was 37.1, notably lower than the 55.7 percent reading of August 2008.
DEWR said increases were seen in the number of vacancies in eleven of the 18 occupational groups comprising the survey. The biggest increases were in the areas of building and engineering professionals.
