French Business Confidence Unexpectedly Drops In December

French manufacturing business confidence indicator dropped to 89 in December from a revised reading of 90 in November, statistical office Insee said Friday. Economists had forecast a reading of 90.

Manufacturers' own-company production outlook deteriorated in December. The corresponding indicator fell to minus 7 from revised minus 4 in the prior month. Meanwhile, the forecast was for the index to stabilize.

General production outlook also slipped in December, with the measure falling to minus 11 in December from minus 9 in November. It was expected to rise to minus 7.
