A jump in vegetable prices send New Zealand food prices higher by 0.6 percent in July.
Statistics NZ reported Friday that higher vegetable prices were responsible for nearly the entire increase in its food price index, as cold weather hampered growing conditions.
Vegetable prices are 12.3 percent higher than in July of 2008, Statistics NZ said.
For the full year to July 2009, food prices increased 8.4 percent, with rises recorded in all five subgroups.
