Thursday, the Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a report that the industrial production increased 0.7% year-on-year in October, compared to a revised 6% fall in the previous month. This was the first increase in industrial output since September 2008. A year ago, industrial output was down 1.3%.
Manufacturing production grew 1% on an annual basis in October, while mining production fell 2.7%. Electricity production was up 13.4%.
On a monthly basis, industrial output grew 5.7% in October, after falling 2.4% in September.
During the January to October period, industrial output decreased 9.7% compared to the same period of the previous year.
