Friday, the Japan Department Stores Association reported that nationwide department store sales eased for the eighteenth consecutive month in August.

Sales adjusted for the number of stores were down 8.8% in August from the previous year. Meanwhile, sales at Tokyo's 28 major outlets operated by 13 companies dipped 10.3%.
