India's excise duty collection for August rose 22.7% over the previous month because of industrial recovery, giving the government, a hope to realise the year's target of indirect tax collections, reports PTI. V. Sridhar, Chairman of Central Board of Excise and Customs, said that the excise collections rose due to improvement in the sugar sector of about 16%, followed by petroleum products by about 4% to 5% and cigarettes. The indirect tax collection target is about Rs.2.7-lakh crore for 2009-10.
