The Chilean government has decided to increase its contribution to the International Monetary Fund by $1.6 billion, the global lender said Thursday.
The government decided to contribute a total of US$2.2 billion through the lender's New Agreement To Borrow scheme.
The IMF's manging director Dominique Strauss-Kahn welcomed the decision. "This will help ensure the IMF's lending capacity is sufficient to meet the financing needs of its member countries and demonstrates Chile's commitment to multilateral cooperation," he said.
