India's SMEs Still Hit By Demand Slowdown-FICCI

A survey by industry body, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) revealed that over 90% of Indian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are still hit by a slowdown in demand and are seeking low-cost finance and fiscal support from the government, reported the media.

The 116 companies that responded to the survey said that they lost most of their markets in Europe and the United States and are finding it difficult to enter into new markets.

Although the government has come out with stimulus measures, SMEs continue to struggle and most of them in the sector are unaware of the steps taken by the government to overcome the impact of global economic crisis. This shows that the benefits of the stimulus packages have not yet reached the ground level, reports said.
