Monday, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority said it aims to receive 1 million international tourists in 2010, with an expected rise of 10% in Italian visitors.
In line with this objective, Mauritius Government has launched an investment program in terms of infrastructural developments with an estimated expense of more than a billion euro.
"One of the first initiative was the opening of a new passenger terminal on February 15 in Port Louis harbor, which makes Mauritius the only cruise hub in Indian Ocean," said Xavier Luc Duval, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Leisure and External Communications.
In 2009, tourists arrivals to the country dropped 6.4% to 871,356, the statistical agency said. It forecasts visitor arrivals to rise by 5% in 2010 and total around 915,000.
