Spain's Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices declined 0.8% in August from the prior year, preliminary data from the National Statistics Institute showed Friday. Economists were expecting the index to fall 1% in August after easing 1.4% in July.

The statistical office is set to release the final report on September 11.
