The average wage in Japan plummeted 7.1 percent on year in June to 430,620 yen, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said on Monday, marking the steepest annual decline on record.
That was significantly worse than the 3.2 percent annual contraction that analysts had been expecting following the upwardly revised 2.5 percent annual fall in May.
Bonuses were down 14.5 percent on year as earnings declined for the 13th consecutive month - marking the longest losing streak in six years.
