India's gross domestic product or GDP at constant prices increased 7.9% year-on-year in the July to September period, faster than the 6.1% growth in the preceding quarter, the Central Statistical Organization or CSO said on Monday. Economists were looking for an increase of 6.3%. A year earlier, the GDP growth was 7.7%.
Manufacturing production rose 9.2% on an annual basis in the July to September period, while mining and quarrying output climbed 9.5%. During the period, construction output grew 6.5%.
Meanwhile, the GDP at current prices increased 8.8% year-on-year in the July to September period, larger than the 7.1% growth in the previous quarter.
