Factory Orders Rise 0.4% In June

The U.S. Commerce Department revealed that factory orders rose 0.4 percent in June, surprising economists, who had expected the measure to drop.

May's factory orders figure was revised slightly lower, to a rise of 1.1 percent compared to the 1.2 percent that was originally reported.

Excluding the transportation sector, orders were up 2.3 percent.

Stripping out the impact of defense, orders were up 1.3 percent.
