Consumer confidence in Belgium fell to minus 15 in December from minus 10 in the prior month, the National Bank of Belgium said in a report on Friday. The index reading was minus 25 in the same period of 2008.
Consumer sentiment weakened due to the more pessimistic prospects regarding the overall economic situation in general and the development of unemployment in particular. The index for unemployment rose to 65 from November's 55 and the assessment of economic situation in Belgium over the coming 12 months slipped sharply to zero in December from 10 in the previous month.
