UK High Street Vacancies Rise In 3-month To August - Cushman & Wakefield

The average availability of shops across the UK rose 0.4% to 12.6% in the three months to August, the latest retail availability report from real estate adviser Cushman & Wakefield showed Monday. It was an increase from 12.2% in May and 11.4% in February.

According to the property agency, 3.3% of all shops available are as a result of retailer administrations. "This figure has remained unchanged since May indicating that administrations are decreasing and that the majority of high street retailers likely to go under have already done so," the report said.

"The retail market remains very challenging but we are seeing rising sales and confidence that the country will return to economic growth before the end of the year," said John Strachan, head of retail services, Cushman & Wakefield.
