Salary and wage rates in New Zealand rose by 0.3 percent in the 2nd quarter of 2009.
Statistics NZ reported Tuesday that the increase was the lowest since the 0.2 percent increase reported in the June 1999 quarter.
Total paid hours for the quarter decreased a seasonally adjusted 3.4 percent for the full year to June 2009, Statistics NZ said.
The Quarterly Employment Survey also showed the number of full time equivalent employees decreased 3.2 percent.
The number of filled jobs was down 2.1 percent, with the agency reporting that the manufacturing industry was the main contributor to the annual decreases.
Gross earnings increased a seasonally adjusted 1.0 percent for the year to June 2009 and were down 0.5 percent on quarter. The agency's Labor Cost Index showed salary and wage rates, including overtime, were higher by 2.8 percent in the June 2009 quarter than in the June 2008 quarter It was the lowest increase since the 2.7 percent reported in the year to June 2005 quarter.
