Overall retail sales in New Zealand increased in June compared to May, thanks in large part to automotive sales. Excluding vehicles, sales were lower.
Statistics NZ reported Friday that overall retail sales for June increased 0.1 percent from May.
June retail sales excluding motor vehicle related sales were lower by 0.4 percent.
For the three months to June 2009, overall retail sales, excluding the effects of inflation, were 0.4 percent higher than in the previous quarter.
The seasonally adjusted total value of retail sales for the quarter rose 1.1 percent or NZ$174 million. Statistics NZ said it marked the first quarterly increase in sales since the March 2008 quarter, and follows a quarterly decline of 1.4 percent in the last quarter.
